Musical Style and Technique

At the core of Jarreau's identity was a vocalist who treated song as a tool for storytelling and improvisation. His technique balanced pop-soul accessibility with jazz sophistication, letting him navigate complex chord changes and free-form scatting while retaining a singable melody.
